Are you packaging for Ubuntu or MOTU? Unfortunately I don't have
experience yet with deb packaging.

You could contact Marco Ferreira" <[email protected]> who has packaged
SPE as a deb.

You can access svn:
The explanation about the SVN repository is here:

http://developer.berlios.de/svn/?group_id=4161

But you should use this path instead:

svn://svn.berlios.de/python/spe/trunk

This should you give all latest files, but maybe I misunderstood your question.

I am just packaging for my own ubuntu box, but if I get it working I pass my 
notes to the last few people in the debian/change log to make their life easier.
