Where to go from Spyce

I see form the archives of this list and the Spyced Blog that Spyce seems to be dead. This is disappointing. 

I am trying to figure out where to go (or if it might be worth it to update Spyce myself). I am probably not a typical user. I use a three phase web development model. I use Spyce to preprocess static content before uploading it to a web server. The output from Spyce is either static XHTML, or PHP to be run on the server. The third phase is server side JavaScript. At first glance it does not look like Pylons or django are well suited to this purpose.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
