Envoking Active Handlers

Hi,

Is it possible to manually envoce acive handlers without using an
f:submit elment.

I Would like to use Active handlers to handle XMLRequest (aka Ajax)
calls.

If someone could give me some pointers as to where to look in the source
that would be good too.
