Hi, I'm using hostmonster.com, a low-end web host. I'm just starting out on Spyce, and have been tangling with the challenge of how to get better performance than plain old CGI. My host has mod_proxy[_http] disabled (and the admins won't enable it), and does not allow me to spawn a persistent background process via ssh. It does, however, have cron, with a policy of killing off jobs only when they exceed 30s of CPU time. So I've come up with a solution which involves: - a shell script cron job, running once a minute, which detects if my Spyce server is running and, if not, runs it - a small C program 'cgiproxy.c', which bridges from pure CGI into an HTTP client request to the Spyce server This combination allows me to have a Spyce server running with nearly 100% uptime, and access it via pure CGI with no need for Apache mod_proxy. My question is - is there here in a similar boat who would like me to write all this up in a formal HOWTO document, including my cron script and CGI adapter? -- Kind regards David ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
