passing variables from page to page

Hello again,
Really sorry about consistently bothering you all on this list. I seem 
to be having real troubles getting my brain in the right gear. I have 
another question. How do you pass variables assigned in one page to 
another. For example in one page I have a table holding data from a db, 
each row has an id. If I want to be able to use this id in another page 
for editing of the row i.e. to select the same row from the db and 
populate a form with the values, how do I pass the value of the id 
variable?
