After an interesting fight between easy_install setuptools,   
pysycopg2 and sqlalchemy (dll hell anyone???)
I upgraded to SqlAlchemy 0.34
It the mapped objects are much faster but not quite as fast as the  
engine

Engine Test
Total Time  over 100 iterations 23.7840
Average: 0.2378
Mapped Object Test
Total Time  over 100 iterations 45.5840
Average: 0.4558

That's a pretty big improvement for the mapped object
Thanks for warning me about the old SqlAlchemy.
