Unfortunately a *very* common problem when people unaware of that try to 
install something from sources and forget to first remove the distribution's 
version. Tinkering around wildly in the presence of two competing installs 
with no precautions taken for separating the properly can be hell through 
poking around with a thick stick in a dark hole.
