Can one modify the sizer automatically inserted by wxGlade in the first frame?

As per the subject, can one change the sizer inserted automatically in
the first frame by wxGlade? If not then this could well be part of my
problems getting to grips with wxGlade.

If one *can't* change the sizer then how does one add more than one
widget to a design? Is it mandatory to add a sizer immediately under
the first sizer, then add some slots to it, and *then* add the widgets?

Ah! I've just done what I outline above. Add a sizer within the
first sizer, add some slots, then change from horizontal to vertical
and I'm stuck. The design window refuses to reappear. Eventually got
it back by double clicking on the frame icon. It seems that changing
sizer properties is beset with difficulties and limitations.

I also got the whole thing to hang by previewing the design, clicking
the close button on that just eleicited the ".... is not responding"
pop up from xubuntu.
