Help with spanning widgets over multiple rows

I am trying to span a Listbox control over multiple rows but for some reason the span controls are greyed out in the properties window. I am using a GrigBagSizer and have checked the wxEXPAND checkbox. Is there some reason why wxGlade would prevent a widget from being spanned?
