OK, I've installed an Ubuntu 17 VM to verify the problem. It seems that with wxPython 3.0.2 the screen update works as expected even on Wayland. So it might be possible to fix this with wxPython 4 as well. I have opened a bug report for this: https://github.com/wxWidgets/Phoenix/issues/743 Let's wait for feedback from Robin.
