Yes, I'm the winner... In the last weeks I did some work with Matplotlib as I want to ship some examples with wxGlade. As I had experience from wxGlade with fixing crashes and redraw errors, it seemed natural to contribute to Matplotlib. For a 3.0 release, I will certainly look into making the Wx backends more straightforward, similar the double-buffering example from the wxPython demo or doc. Also, for 3.0 it would probably make sense to move from ClientDC to Refresh/PaintDC, as this would allow to unify the rubberband code between OS X and the rest again. For 2.2 this would have been too risky. The bug actually looks like a wx bug as Classic 3.0.2 is working. It would be nice if it could be addressed as Wayland is becoming mainstream now. If not, then the wxPython demo needs some work as the ScrolledWindow demo fails as well.
