Maybe matplotlib would fit your needs. I can easily be integrated into wx Python GUIs. If you want to use a GUI builder, wxGlade includes matplotlib examples. If you don't want to use a GUI builder, the examples still may help you to get started to interact between GUI elements and the canvas.
