The EEG-SMT is designed and built by Olimex. The good folks who designed
OpenEEG are right to stay mum, as they didn't design it..

I've been following the openEEG project for a few months now, and decided to
purchase the Olimex EEG-SMT version today.

This is the fully assembled USB-based model with support for various EEG
analysis suites, and although it requires the use of conductive paste I've
been interested in comparing it with other EEG acquisition hardware I have
such as the Emotiv EPOC Research Edition.

It should be noted that I made a request to the openEEG list a few days ago
about the safety and electrical isolation capabilities of the EEG-SMT
device, as it is not typically a good idea to connect electrodes to one's
scalp and then in turn interface said electrodes with shore power-connected
USB devices such as a laptop, but I digress.  As of the date of this
correspondence, that request for information has not yet been responded to
by the openEEG powers to be.

So today I ordered an Olimex EEG-SMT, including four (4) active electrodes
and one (1) passive electrode per the documentation.  Per the online
ordering system, I provided my shipping address here in the USA, was
provided with a complete quote including UPS shipping charges, and received
a final invoice amount.  I was then redirected to Paypal for the payment
process, to submit payment to some fellow in Bulgaria.  The total purchase
amount quoted was in Euros, so I did a quick check of the current exchange
ratio between the Euro and US Dollar, and whisked away a payment for the
adjusted amount based upon the Euro to Dollar exchange rate at the time of
purchase.

After transmitting funds via Paypal to some dude in Bulgaria named Cvetan
Uzunov, I was then informed that my payment would not be accepted per the
following email correspondence:

I'm sorry for your troubles but people around the world use hundreds of
currencies, but our account is in EURO and we require EURO payments. Paypal
can send money in EURO, you just have to select EURO from the drop down menu
which appear when you want to send money

So, I've now got a $200 USD something purchase tied up in the Paypal refund
process after having transmitted the same to Bulgaria (and which was
adjusted for the currency exchange rate between the Euro and US Dollar),
while the good folks that develop the openEEG project are mum on the topic
of what method they use for electrode isolation from the AC power they use
to power the unit.
