Hi Jordan

Medical DIN connectors are rather expensive, if Olimex would have used
those in the SMT-EEG that would have made that unit much more expensive.

DIN connectors are also **BIG** - and this then would not have fitted into
the currently used plastic enclosure. A bigger enclosure and bigger PCB
would have been needed, further pushing up the price.

Finally, there would not have been active electrode support. Or Olimex
would have needed to add further connectors for such support, due to the
power pins needed by actives. And yes, you guessed it, the price would
have gone up further...

I hate these connectors too, but considering the overall asking price, they
have been a good compromise. What I find sad, is that the box was too
small to place all 5 connectors on one side. As it now is, the DRL is
"around the corner". Not elegant. But finding a low cost suitable
enclosure and then being able to fit everything on a double sided PCB to
fit is really the toughest part of the design! The electronic design is a
piece of cake - in comparison. :-) In any design, it is always the cost
versus everything else. You can't have your (cheap) cake and eat it!

I don't know the LEMO connector but yes, you should be able to make a
stereo-jack-to-DIN adaptor quite easily. Each stereo jack would only get
one wire connected. You would connect said wire to the solder lug that
connects the centre electrode of the connector.

Regards
Stefan
