Re: EEG Hobbyists in China

I am working since 35 years in an neurophysiological department of a large
psychiatric clinic in belgium an d have only experience is with high end
ampli and analysis software. The prices of these toys are , however, not
justified IMHO :-) 

Unfortunately on the hobby marked we have systems that are not
professionally enough (emotiv, neurosky) to work well in real life
circumstances.

I am looking now into ANT's EEGOsports (a battery operated 64 ch digital EEG
completely portable) that would be excellent for neuromarketing but costs
are prohibiting for the individual --> 20.000 euro !!!

There are development efforts in Belgium for such wearable systems (by IMEC)
usiong dry electrodes but they are not yet on the market.

I think there is an opportunity here provided development costs of the
hardware can be kept within reasonable limits. In  order to be able to go
for Loreta source analysis (look at where the current are generated in the
brain) a minimum of 19 ch is a must (32 is better  64 is a bit overkill). 

The ANT eegopsorts system can be equiped with a 32 ch system. I have field
tested it and found it very robust in real life. stable signals even when
moving around in sports activity. But tomorrow I leave to the annual Beaune
neuromeeting (bourgogne) for further field testing during a neuroscientific
meeting.

I am using EEG on myself to see if it can effectively measure and help to
improve performance during activities such as meditation and focus
activities (working etc.). I am using Neurosky. It doesn't seem to be the
best solution though. Right now, there are three issues I would like to dig
more into (you will understand I am not an expert in the subject  ) 

..	Is Neurosky really giving relevant results? And if not why and what
are the best alternatives? 
..	I didn't find an easy to use software to measure record and analyze
brain activity . For example, what's the average time spent in a certain
frequency zone during the session etc.
..	I would love to explore the idea to monitor brain activity and have
a feedback during the entire day when doing things such as exercising or
even in the office. But I have never seen a device that is "wearable in
public"! I am not even sure it is possible to design one but I do think
there may be some solutions!
