Typically visual entrainment (photic stimulation) is accomplished with Audiostrobe encoding of sound files, which is a subcarrier encoding method used to drive an external light array for photic stimulation sessions. Most photic stimulation eyeglass sets include some form of Audiostrobe capability, by splitting the line level out or headphone out from an audio source to the eyeglass hardware which in turn pulses goggle LEDs according to the Audiostrobe subcarrier. Transparent Corp (http://www.transparentcorp.com) has a variety of applications and plugins for that purpose; someone told me a while back that they also have a plugin for screen blanking that can be used to run a photic stimulation session by dynamically modifying the screen refresh rate to achieve the desired brainwave state.
