I've been held up by being unable to find the ADS1299 I had kicking around. Otherwise it seems simple enough. Solder up a plain jane ADS1299 board with a ESP8266 module on it. I'd like to also add a Lipo battery charger to it at some point, but that's really all I see it needing.

Still at just a theoretical stage at this point, even though I have started playing around with the ESP8266. When I get something soldered together I'll be sure to post here.

It also has a fair bit of useless hardware, like the accelerometer and SD card. The 8-bit board's Atmega processor is popular but old and underpowered. That last comment would be the problem I also see in the EEG64 project. It uses an oddball 16-bit processor. We really need to base things around popular, market leading processors that are readily available in mass quanity for cheap.

I need a high performance system with a low per-channel cost so I’ve looked at the cheapest high performance options.

STM32F103C8 boards are available for about $4.75 and would be, by far, the best price/performance board readily available. Arduino Nano USB boards are only about $2.50 and are by far the most popular, but I think it would be a mistake to base anything new around such an old 8-bit processor.

I'm currently looking at creating an EEG board using an ESP8266 module. This would be the cheapest solution of all, with a $3-4 ESP8266 module handling both the SPI data and wifi connection. It remains to be seen how many channels the 8266 can handle while maintaining the wifi link.

Looks like John Ruelas is on the ball. I would like to suggest that we rally behind the www.EEG64.com project so that the open source community truly has an up to date eeg platform. Once it's functionality is tested and confirmed, then attention can turned towards the refinement of non-contact or dry active electrodes.

Thoughts?
