Issues with Olimex EEG-SMT, help?

Hello all.

My name is Harrison, I'm a student at Middlebury College.

I am currently attempting to build an EEG-based brain-to-computer interface for (eventually) pitch transcription, but I'm having some trouble getting my computer to register input from the Olimex EEG-SMT.

I am currently running the Olimex EEG-SMT with four active electrodes and one passive into my laptop (ASUS N56VJ?) via USB. I've tried a variety of software just to determine whether or not I have an input (BrainBay, OpenVibe, etc.) but have had little luck. Ultimately I hope to use MatLab to sort through some of the information.

1. How do I connect the EEG-SMT to my computer?

2. How do I test to ensure that the signal I am receiving is from the EEG-SMT?

3. If I want to look at the auditory cortex, where should I place the electrodes?

Currently I am doing F2, F3, T3, and T4 with the passive electrode on the cheek or jaw.

Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks so much!

Harrison
