I've got the following packages compiled from sources
on my system:
gtk2-2.2.1-4
gtkextra2-2.0.0-1
python-2.2.1-17
python-numeric-17.3.0-3
numarray-1.3.0-1
libscigraphica-2.0.0-1
scigraphica-2.0.0-1

Locale is en_US.UTF-8

I open a new worksheet and type in a few values in a
column.
Then I try to move up with "arrow up" key the worksheet
spoils the contents of the particular cell I moved to.
SciGraphica puts to following to a console:
** (scigraphica-debug:15866): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8
string passed to pango_layout_set_text()

If I try to edit the contents then something weird is
put inside and the console has:
** (scigraphica-debug:15866): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8
string passed to pango_layout_set_text()
  File "<string>", line 1
    °S;
    ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
