The "switch" is in Zotero: Preferences > General Tab and check or uncheck the box, "Use Zotero for downloaded RIS/Refer files." You can reach the Preferences menu by clicking the Gear icon. Having a button on the Zotero toolbar to toggle this on and off would be a good addition. The Zotero Feature Request forum (http://forums.zotero.org/7/ might be the place to suggest this. If you know JavaScript, it also might not be too hard to program this as a Zotero plugin. One could also try the same things at the EndNote side of things, but EndNote tends to be much more closed. Personally, I'd rather have something like the BibDesk Sync plugin so that my Zotero and EndNote databases are always synchronized. From what I understand, Zotero is still pretty slow with large databases, but EndNote continues to amaze me when it processes by c16,000-entry database. If only EndNote had at least an API so someone could do this, but it remains pretty closed. Maybe someone could program some AutoHotkey scripts as a workaround. Marsh Feldman
