Rebuilding DB vs Continuous Update

People,

I have been using Recoll for more than a decade - to begin with I
configured it for using a continuous update of the Xapian DB but I found
that slowed the system down too much during normal use - and also I
started finding that searches were not working for some strings / files
when they should have been so I took to periodically using:

   rm -f /home/phr/.recoll/xapiandb/* ; recollindex -Z ; recoll -q
docsdone -t

when I knew the workstation would be unused for a while. Now, instead
of hours, it is taking a couple of days to rebuild the DB (on an AMD
Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor with 64Gb RAM) so now I think I will have
go back to NO deletion and recreation of the DB but to do periodic
updating.

My question is: If I find that new files are not having their text
added to the DB again, how do I debug what is going wrong?

Thanks,

Phil.
