An espionage gang that used blackmail to extort intelligence on Turkey's=20
security projects installed secret cameras all over a facility of the=20
Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (T=C3=9CB=C4=B0TA=
K) and=20
illegally videotaped most of the agency's employees for blackmail=20
purposes.

An investigation began into allegations that a military espionage gang=20
catalogued 1,048 people working at T=C3=9CB=C4=B0TAK on the basis of thei=
r=20
religious beliefs, ideological outlook, sexual orientation and other=20
personal data after an anonymous tipster wrote a letter to prosecutors=20
in 2010. The investigators have recently found that bugs, cameras hidden=20
from view and other recording devices were installed in various places=20
in T=C3=9CB=C4=B0TAK's Marmara Research Center (MAM) facility, located ne=
ar=20
=C4=B0stanbul in Gebze, to make illegal recordings.

Detectives have established that the MAM facility, which also includes a=20
157-bed hotel and a 150-bed guesthouse, had gang-installed microphones,=20
bugs for eavesdropping and hidden cameras in almost every room. A list=20
of the 1,048 people catalogued by gang members confirms this, as some=20
people have the note, =E2=80=9CWe have recordings on him made at the inst=
itute.=E2=80=9D

Investigators say the gang used blackmail tactics to extort vital=20
information about Turkey's security projects from individuals holding=20
strategic positions at T=C3=9CB=C4=B0TAK. The gang has an archive of foot=
age=20
showing male employees in compromising positions with women.
