Hackers claiming to be members of the loose hacking collective Anonymous=20
took credit for knocking the Citigroup and Citibank Web sites offline on=20
Friday. At times the sites were only sporadically available, and some=20
attempts to log into banking accounts were met with an error message.

Andrew Brent, a Citigroup spokesman, confirmed that Citigroup=E2=80=99s c=
onsumer=20
site had experienced a temporary outage but said that Citigroup had been=20
able to restore Web site operations within one hour and was continuing=20
to monitor its systems.

=E2=80=9CAt no point were there data integrity issues or compromise of cl=

account information,=E2=80=9D Mr. Brent said in an interview. =E2=80=9CWe=
 apologize for=20
any inconvenience.=E2=80=9D

This was part of a string of attacks this week by hackers who call=20
themselves Anonymous Brasil. In posts on Twitter, the hackers said their=20
attacks were intended to fight corruption. By Friday, they had at=20
various times taken down the Web sites of Banco BMG, Banco Bradesco,=20
Banco de Brasil, Banco Panamericano, Citigroup, HSBC Holdings, Itau=20
Unibanco Banco Multiplo and Febraban, Brazil=E2=80=99s banking federation=
