Nortel Networks Corp. approached the RCMP about Chinese industrial=20
espionage in 2004 but got no help from Canadian law enforcement or=20
intelligence agencies, according to a former employee concerned about=20
the theft of valuable intellectual property.

Brian Shields, a 19-year Nortel veteran who served as a senior systems=20
security adviser, told The Globe and Mail that the company received=20
little help from security agencies and was only approached by the=20
Canadian Security Intelligence Service shortly before Nortel filed for=20
bankruptcy in 2009.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that it found no record of the=20
Nortel computer hacking complaint but that it would likely have been=20
=E2=80=9Cpurged=E2=80=9D from internal records if the case did not result=
 in charges.=20
CSIS declined to comment.
