I have a fresh install of Solaris 9, fully patched. When I install pfil (2.1.13) and reboot, my desktop doesn't work correctly. When I start a terminal it opens the window but I never get the shell prompt. When I exit CDE, I get a white screen and it just hangs. I can still log in via ssh and the system seems mostly normal. I cannot reboot the machine however, so something is still wrong with the machine. When I remove pfil, everything works as it should. When I add pfil, it behaves as above. I went though the remove pfil, add pfil cycle 5 times and the behavior is consistent. I found an old post (Aug 2007) with similar problems, but there was no resolution. http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg07517.html. I'm getting ready to patch a production Solaris 9 machine, so I'll need to be able to recompile pfil/ipfilter. Any help tracking this down would be greatly appreciated.
