auth in Perl?

Would it be possible to leverage Perl (or a similar "scripting
language," though Perl would be preferred) to establish a program to handle
IPFilter's "auth" action that essentially uses a script to control whether
to pass or block, with all available options (e.g. logging, "keep state", TCP
flags, etc.)? Has anyone done this?
