I saw something similar to this when I hooked up a customer to Rogers 
Cable using a MultiTech Routefinder 550. He could browser a number of 
sites no problem but downloading 20 e-mails from another isp took 30 
minutes or more. Sometimes it just hung. Certain sites like sears.ca he 
could not access at all.

We got some strange messages, not the one you got, but I don't remember 
what the message was. Mutlitech support was baffled.

We finally replaced the router with smoothwall gpl 1 and everything has 
been fine since then. I used the customer's Routefinder for someone else 
on a Bell Sympatico network with NO PROBLEMS!

Not sure if this is applicable but the symptoms sound similar.

This just goes to show you that all manufacturers follow the standards; 
more or less...
