Don, I teach the Digital Forensics class at both Portland State University and Portland Community College. PSU's class is usually taught during the Summer, while PCC has a class in the Fall and sometimes again in the Spring. I first learned forensics in a week long seminar taught in conjunction with a security conference. One of the instructors was Howard Schmidt, just before he left to become the CISO for Microsoft. I also took classes from NTI when they held their classes in Gresham. I also took the Expert Witness training classes from NTI. The main difference between the College level course and the seminars is that the seminars tend to focus on the mechanics, where the college courses include the mechanics, surrounded by some law, police procedure, and investigative techiques foundation. I have 15 years in the field of software QA and am now interested in computer forensics. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Computer Science already. I am looking for training, preferably at the university level, for computer forensics as my company will pay for university courses. Anything physically close to the Portland, Oregon area would be great. Anything online would also be good. Anyone who would like to share their experiences of how they were trained in this field would also be welcomed. Maybe university training is not the best for this subject matter.
