Libprelude api question

I'm currently working on writing an addon to snmptrapd to turn it into a native prelude sensor using the embeded perl plugin to snmptrapd. It is crude due to the early stage of development but it works. I'm having one problem though I haven't figured out how to recover from a failover yet. If any one can give me pointers I would be greatfull even if its in C I've gotten fairly good at turning it into perl code that is acceptable to the api.
