Re: MySQL Optimal Configuration

The database schema for Open Source Prelude was designed before the
project had someone qualified to design it.  It's a literal
interpretation of the IDMEF specification with no design optimizations
for data warehousing.
Prelude-XLR, however, was designed much later, and outperforms the Open
Source Prelude database by orders of magnitude.  I've used both in
datacenters of various sizes (my current datacenter, for reference, is
about 180,000 sq ft).  The Open Source Prelude database works well in
small datacenters (about 30-50 servers), but doesn't scale well to
larger environments.

Why is the open-source database bad? What does XLR do that the regular
