Need help on snort documents

Hi All,
 
I am very new Snort Learner.
 
I am looking for a document or recordings that describes : 
 
- How Snort receives packet, processes them and then gives final verdict? 
- What are the different stages involved and what all happens in those stages? 
- What is a life of packet?”
