Check the command you put in quotes vs the error output. Snort is unhappy with the strange character preceding the 'V'.

Error: "–V"
Correct: "-V"

Subject: [Snort-users] failed install - FATAL: see prior 1 errors

Hello,

I have attempted to install Snort3 on Centos Stream 8, using the instructions provided by Snort 3 on the CentOS 8 Stream document (Snort_3_GA_on_CentOS8_Stream.pdf). After completing Step 4. (Installing Snort 3), the installation doesn't appear to work. I completed the final step of checking the version of Snort, by issuing the command "/usr/local/snort/bin/snort -V", I get the following message:

ERROR: unknown option - –V
FATAL: see prior 1 errors
Fatal Error, Quitting..

I don't think I missed any steps. Can someone provide some insight into what might be causing this problem? I have attached a screenshot of the steps I completed during the install.
