OpenBSD spamd can sit in front of anything, it's extremely lightweight (a 
low end 1U server can easily handle a large number of messages) and 
reliable, it also supports greytrapping (email [email protected] and get 
blacklisted, this works well since spammers usually hit a number of 
addresses in sequence so if you seed in some grey trap ones it'll end the 
spam run quickly).

This is also a very effective method for dealing with viruses since the 
majority do not attempt redelivery.
