If you are starting your practicle now, I think you have to go for a format that is 4.1 or above (if there is one). As per the 4.1's standard, you don't have a choice to choose your topic. You have to analyze the logs from http://isc.sans.org/logs/ according to the specifications specified in the standards http://www.giac.org/gcia_study_guide_v41.pdf.
