I just tried an experiment. With no other changes I simply moved the two 
udev raid rules files that the latest mdadm gives us and in their place I 
put the old single raid rules file and it worked perfectly. I have my disk 
by label and the root links to md0 and varlog_comp (since this is flash) 
links to md1 as it should. So now there are three ways to fix this. Patch 
the existing udev, update udev or simply substitute the old single rules 
file in lieu of the two new rules files that come with mdadm. 

I just tried this successfully on a second machine and it works perfectly.
