Connect/disconnect a red DHCP connection programmatically

Hi, I have an ipcop that gets its RED address from a modem in "pass-thru" mode sometimes AKA "bridge mode"... For some reason the RED ipcop interface loses its connection and does not reinitialize it... To restore the connection all I have to do is hit the disconnect button, wait a couple of seconds and hit the connect button.... Trouble is that the ipcop is not handy and when it is hung up I cannot manage it remotely.... I would like to create a fcron job to periodically run a script to disconnect and reconnect the RED interface... whether it needs it or not.... Anyone have an idea how to do this??
