My domain is registered through my ISP, and at present the MX record only points to the smarthost / mailserver provided by my ISP, with my local mailserver running fetchmail. Some important outgoing emails are being rejected as "relay not permitted" by the destination (but I have no control over that), while incoming emails are not being properly filtered, so I want to set up my own mailgate and set my fixed IP address as primary MX, sending by direct SMTP(S). Not having my own fixed IP address listed as MX causes problems if I send by direct SMTP(S). I would also like to make my entire system IPv6-ready, as I suspect that we will all be using IPv6 very soon. I have been running my own firewall, local DNS, Mail, and Web servers for a long time, and already have running main and standby IPCop boxes, plus a box that is to have a shorewall system as soon as I can complete and test the configuration.
