AFAIK this is not true. Maybe you meant 'Netbeui' which is really not routable.
Netbios itself can be used over TCP|UDP/IP (see your /etc/services, ports 137-139)
which is perfectly routable.

Nevertheless - I do not recommend using NFS or Samba as long as the network is
considered public (=insecure). Use AFS.
