XP Home cannot join a domain. By default, when a XP workstation is in a workgroup, all remote connection are downgraded to guest. Open the administrative tools, run the "local security policy"; go to "local policies", "Security options", and change "Network access: sharing and security model for local accounts" from "Guest only ..." to "Classic ...".
