cross compiling libnasl (and any other Nessus related component)

I was compiling the Nessus components for an ALIX x86 device (and will 
be more non x86 devices soon) and received the following error during 
configure.

checking for a working strndup implementation... configure: error: can 
not run test program while cross compiling

Before just hacking away on the configure checks, I would like to find 
out if this is advisable and if possible what the recommended way of 
getting around this is.
