1. Time for a new certification
By Don Parker
I wrote a column for Securityfocus some time ago that aired my concerns o=
ver GIAC dropping the practical portion of their certification process. T=
hat column resulted in a lot of feedback, with most agreeing about how GI=
AC bungled what was up till then, the best certification around.

2. 0wning Vista from the boot
By Federico Biancuzzi
Federico Biancuzzi interviews Nitin and Vipin Kumar, authors of VBootkit,=
a rootkit that is able to load from Windows Vista boot-sectors. They dis=
cuss the "features" of their code, the support of the various versions of=
Vista, the possibility to place it inside the BIOS (it needs around 1500=
bytes), and the chance to use it to bypass Vista's product activation or=
 avoid DRM.

Summary:
Microsoft Windows Terminal Services is prone to a remote security-restric=
tion bypass vulnerability. This issue is due to a failure of the server s=
oftware to properly enforce encryption requirements.

This issue allows users to connect to affected servers without utilizing =
encryption, bypassing security requirements configured by administrators.=
This may allow attackers to perform man-in-the-middle attacks, or to eav=
esdrop on RDP sessions.

This issue affects Terminal Services installed on Windows 2003 Server; ot=
her versions may also be affected.

2. IBM DB2 Universal Database JDBC Applet Server Unspecified Code Executi=
on Vulnerability

Remote: Yes
Date Published: 2007-05-08
Relevant URL: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/23890
Summary:
IBM DB2 Universal Database is prone to an unspecified remote code-executi=
on vulnerability.

An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the conte=
xt of the user running the application. Successful attacks can result in =
the compromise of the application or can cause denial-of-service conditio=
ns.

Few technical details are currently available. We will update this BID as=
 more information emerges.

3. Microsoft Word RTF Parsing Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Remote: Yes
Date Published: 2007-05-08
Relevant URL: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/23836
Summary:
Microsoft Word is prone to a remote code-execution vulnerability.

An attacker could exploit this issue by enticing a victim to open a malic=
ious Word file. Successfully exploiting this issue would allow the attack=
er to execute arbitrary code in the context of the currently logged-in us=
er.

4. Microsoft SharePoint Server Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

ity because the application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied inpu=
t.=20

An attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary script code in t=
he browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected site. T=
his may help the attacker steal cookie-based authentication credentials a=
nd launch other attacks.

Note: Symantec has not confirmed that the issue is not specific to the Mi=
crosoft SharePoint test server. The most recent version is believed to be=
affected. This BID will be updated as more information emeges.

Relevant URL: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/23810
Summary:
Microsoft Exchange is prone to a remote denial-of-service vulnerability b=
ecause it fails to properly handle specially crafted IMAP commands.

Successfully exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to cause targe=
ted Exchange servers' mail service to stop responding, thus denying furth=
