Historical perspective : network zones

Hello,

This is only from an historical perspective as I wonder why in 2014 systemd=
 was seemingly refusing to start shorewall because of lack of support for n=
etwork zones. =C2=A0As described by a Linux distribution in October 2014 :

"By default, Shorewall is disabled, but if you attempt to enable it using s=
ystemctl start shorewall, it will fail to start. And the reason systemd giv=
es is that Shorewall lacks support for network zones."

Was this the same zones as found in the zones Shorewall configuration file =
or am I missing a concept here ?
