Hi folks,
As most of you already know, we've been gradually winding down Shorewall
over the past few years since Tom's retirement and the deprecation of
iptables.
As part of this we're making some infrastructure changes:
1. We've moved the shorewall.org web site to be hosted on AWS
CloudFront. At the moment if you hit https://shorewall.org/ you'll
go via the Brisbane (Australia) POP, which might make it slow for
those of you in other parts of the world. Using
https://www.shorewall.org/ should get you to a local AWS POP which
should perform well regardless of your location.
2. We're waiting on a DNS registration transfer to complete, after
which https://shorewall.org/ should be identical in performance to
https://www.shorewall.org/. There will be a few hours of disruption
to service after the DNS changes over. I'll get these fixed as soon
as I can.
3. There are some minor differences in the index file format in the
software archive in https://www.shorewall.org/pub/shorewall, but all
of the files are the same.
4. The country mirrors in Germany and Czech Republic listed on the site
are still functional, but we'll be winding down the rsync service
shortly, so they won't get any further updates (there are no further
updates planned anyway).
5. We'll also likely drop email support on the domain since it's not
really needed any more.
Thanks to Tuomo Soini for hosting most of the Shorewall infrastructure
for the past few years, and to the maintainers of the country mirrors
over many years.
If there are any questions about the move or if you notice any errors
with the site, please let me know.
Regards,
Paul
