Just exactly what info were you looking for? The datatype for a key is a key_t (from sys/types.h)...IIRC, it is 32 bits in most Unix systems. A search for shmget (which is one of the syscalls involved) yields the following result: http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/806-0626/6j9vgh69h?q=shmget&a=view Then you have shmctl, and so on... I seem to recall a pretty good tutorial that's been available for some time now. It should cover most aspects on IPC programming: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~beej/guide/ipc/ Hmm. Are anyone aware of any serious security implications when using shared memory?
