Is it the same in all dirs? Do you have a /xfn dir? I found our find (ahem) command fails on some solaris boxes due to the /xfn dir which is some phony dir used by solaris " federated naming system" (see man xfn) which sometimes stops somehow. Other funky files (pipes etc) might have a similar effect.
