- revert my generic make rule patch...(seems to not work on FreeBSD)
  - --with-single-libs was also broken :-(

- add filetype detection in configure.in 
  --with-filetype=yes|no|auto  (default=auto)

Rainer, can you test the filetype detection stuff.
