Dear Samba / Samba-vscan / Clamav users and developers,

My name is William van de Velde,

We have trouble with users downloading large files from a samba server to
their local Windows PC. We use samba-vscan to scan all files with clam-AV.

The problem is that when users download files like service-packs (around
200 MB) they cannot copy the file from the samba server to their
workstation because the scanning process takes too long (more than
2minutes). The client will wait/hang for 30 seconds and then the
connection to the share will be broken because the client did not receive
any data (until the file has been scanned 100%).

So our real problem is that the samba connection seems dead as long as it
takes to scan the file. Once scanning is done the connection is alive, but
with large files the workstation has given up already.

These are the packages I use:
clamav-0.91.2-0.1
samba-vscan-0.3.6b-42.54.72
samba-3.0.25b-1.1.72

Does someone know a solution for this specific problem?

With kind regards

William van de Velde
