Thanks Dave!  It was that easy; now I am using amavisd-new with sophie
and no problems!

Ps - is the sophie-3.04rc2 supposed to be installed in any particular
location?  Make just compiles it in the directory it was extracted.
Which files are needed for proper operation?

Make a symlink /usr/local/lib/libsavi.so to /usr/local/lib/libsavi.so.3
and
you should be fine.

Installing Sweep with the -so option does this for you :)
