Alas, no...not really sure where to look. It has the feel of a thread deadlock somewhere, but I'm only a poor Perl coder, so it's only a guess. Perhaps there is a timeout problem that causes the hang; I have been unable to corrolate. Should be pretty easy to test, though - why don't you try and replicate with a "truss -vall -l -D" and see if that shows anything helpful.
