I think it's absolutely essential. After a successful scanning test, I upgraded 100-odd machines with sophie under daemontools to 3.04 on 1st September, and since then we've been having increasing problems due to memory over-commitment. I checked round all the machines today, and some of them had have 30, 40, or 80 sophie processes owned by 'init' - where I have a configured max of 20 children, and most machines should only have 1 or 2 at a time thanks to the very useful idle timeout! I'm trying the patch too, should have results in a couple of days. But the symptoms are the same. Nick
